Never underestimate the power of hardwork….EVER!!!

September 23, 2005

Crazy week that just passed but it was all worth it! My team, nay tribe for the Nike tribes challenge in Ortigas just won first place with the highest score awarded ever to any tribe that competed, whatever the branch! I am so proud of the girls I trained and performed with last night, September 22. Congratulations to the rest of the HALA BIRA tribe, yup, that is the name we came up with! Well done Donna, Janise and Winnie. These girls put in the energy, time, effort and discipline to train with me for over a week and a half. They adjusted to my jampacked sched and allowed themselves to be subjected to my very stringent criteria when it comes to training and dancing! Yes! I am a sucker for proper form and execution! Straight, strong and clean armlines and extensions are a must! It all paid off!
About 3 weeks ago, my trainer, Mader Fhe Manalili- Samia, texted me asking if I was interested in joining the Nike tribes competition. I replied saying that of course I was interested, I always am where competitions are concerned. But I didnt have the time to train and practice, neither the energy nor the best of health to dance (I’ve been ill with asthma and cough for over two months, and I haven’t been teaching my body jam class in this span of time). Add to that my impending trip to malaysia. But she asked me to come in when I could, meet my tribe and practice with them when I got back from Malaysia. And that was exactly what I did.
Arrived from KL wednesday, met with them thursday and started training for the competition friday night, 930 pm onwards because that is the time the studio in ortigas is vacant. We met up again Saturday, 12nn to train until about 345pm, after which I had to run to the station to board from 4 to 7 pm. Same thing over sunday morning, from 10am until 5pm. We would have trained all day long sunday if I didnt have to leave to host at the Manila Hotel by 630pm.
For days after that, we would train every morning, from 9 or 10am, until 1145am. Break from 12 nn to 4 pm coz i am at the station, train again after board work, from 4-530, and then i go off to host an event at the Fort (monday), or eastwood (tuesday) and back in again, 930pm until as late as our energy would take us.
We performed to two consecutive tracks from the bodyjam releases. I was their leader/bodyjam instructor, and these fitness first members had to re-learn the entire choreography starting off on their left side, instead of the usual right. They had to learn body jam rules, and principles and perform on stage like an instructor. We had to polish much of the movements coz synchronisation was a major key! In our final pose, I ended up injuring my knee :(
Thursday night was the big night! I had to extend at RX until 5pm coz Danielle was feeling under the weather. Body Jam was slated to start at 830pm. In as much as I would have wanted to just rest, relax and learn my spiels and choreography, I couldn’t coz I had to host the first part of the competition - body combat. Ended up braiding my hair, and fixing my face in the studio itself, whilst the competition went on, and then it was jam, and it was our turn first!
The crowd was amazing! They responded so well to every single move, action, instruction and everything we did and said! Thank you to my regular students for coming in, staying that late just to support the tribe! There are way too many of you to mention and i wouldnt want to miss out on anyone, so I am staying safe on this one.Thank you to everyone for the applause, the screams, and for seriously rooting for and responding to my tribe! Thank you thank you!
To my true MAHAL, thank you for surprising me with your presence! Despite nursing a really bad cough, you still showed up knowing that the mere sight of you would calm my nerves down. Thank you for your concern over my injured knee. Amazingly, You have been present in every significant moment in my life! I always seem to emerge triumphant whenever you are around. You are my lucky charm! I love you, you know that! Thank you to Raffy d for coming by as well, same goes to Val Concepcion, my batchmate from UP Dent, to Gem Aricayos, who braved commuting, sans tyler, to show her love. Much love going out to Lester, you great smelling, adorable you, who could not be there to support me during the competition itself coz he had to attend to his own carnal needs, but surprised me at the station earlier in the afternoon. My good friend, designer Alcs Porras, honey, thank you for lending me your knee support! Your generosity saved my knee and our performance! To the Nike people, Tony Atayde and Deeda Pama of Nike Philippines, shout outs to you guys! Much gratitude for the sets of Nike apparel you sponsored me with for my hosting! To E.V. you know who you are…..to answer your question, it’s been known to be addicting, the kind you cant get enough of :) Looking forward to that massage ;) The well wishes of Mike, Margaret, Tita Chat and Sarah, were a definite boost! but most of all, thank you to my tribemates - Donna, Janise and Winnie for doing a wonderful job!

I wish I had known about this sooner. I would have been there for you if I had. :) I'm glad you won. :)
